A friend has a '78 CB550 which has oil fouled plugs. She was told by our local honda mechanic that the bike needs a new head gasket, and from the looks of the oil leakage onto the fins, I would agree. I did a compression test and all cylinders are in the 120-130 range (which seems ok). I haven't run a compression test, please recommend a compression tester and where to buy it. I am not planning to do a valve job. I figure it's cheaper to buy a low-mileage head on e-bay instead. A 650 motor would be hard to find in Hawaii. And shipping from the mainland to here is brutal for something that heavy. Thanks! Mike

Now the bike wont start. I did another compression test and only got 120 & 128psi. when I poured oil into the plug holes, compression jumped back to the 150 psi range. I tried to check the valve seats with oil and compressed air blown into the ports. I got a couple very small bubbles when I blew about 60psi into ports.
